Sun Island Motel

I made the mistake of looking at just the Web site and not reading all the reviews. I expected a charming older motel. Instead, when I arrived about 9 pm on Dec 22, there were no cars there. Further, the manager-only parking spot was empty and no lights were on in the office. As you can see from other reviews, there is no management on-site, and making contact can be a problem. The room was clean but spartan. I was in unit 11. When I ended my reservation the next morning, via phone as indicated on the vacant office door, I did not get a person, I got voice mail. As you can see in the other reviews, others have had this problem or worse. The only response was an email the next day, telling me it was part of the terms and conditions to not give a refund once I had started the stay. In that email, Sarah asked what was wrong and I detailed my concerns. One final observation: as part of checkout, they ask that you put your trash in the garbage bins outside the motel. When I did that on the morning of Dec 23, a Saturday, I found all the bins were empty. There were no other cars in the parking lot that morning. Fortunately, I found a vastly better place for the rest of our stay in St Petersburg, and I'll be much more careful to read reviews in the future.

We were supposed to receive checkin information by email. We received nothing. After our flight, we got our rental car and came straight here. When they say unmanned front office, they really mean it. There is no one to help. I only had data so I tried emailing. After 30 mins we found a guest who let us use their phone. I called and she gave me a room and code. Went to the room and there were personal belongings. Imagine if someone had been in the room. I had to find another hotel guest with a phone to let her know. I called and she apologized. She said she had given us the code to an occupied room. She gave us a new room/code. Unfortunately the toilet in this room did not work. I emailed multiple times and no one responded. At night, a few guests had visitors in the pool area and they were screaming and fighting until 3am. We did not feel safe at all. Literally steps away from our room. Obv since there was no management at the hotel they could not stop the party. We had to be up at 6 for a booked activity and we were all exhausted. I do not recommend this motel. Next time, I will pay more to stay at a hotel with 24 hour service/security.

This is a wonderful place to stay for the night. We had our family with us, and there was plenty of room. We stayed in room 11, and it was awesome! Very nice and clean we had the suite which had a queen bed 2 twins a livingroom kitchen and bath.. I felt very safe at this motel they also had a pool. No one works at the office, which was strange, but there is a number you can call, and they do respond when you call she was very nice. They send you a code to get into your room . It was about 5 minutes to the beach and we were there! I highly recommend this motel the prices were good and everything was so nice and clean thank you for a great experience.
